Barack Obama is undoubtedly in full panic mode right now after it was announced that a commission led by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos will reconsider his former administration’s guidance for school disciplinary policies.

The Hill reported that Donald Trump’s White House announced over the weekend that its new “hardening schools” proposal that DeVos will lead the new Federal Commission for School Safety and will consider whether to replace Obama’s “Rethink School Discipline” guidelines. The guidances, which discouraged students from reporting misbehaved students to law enforcement, have been heavily criticized since last month’s school shooting in Parkland.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio sent a letter to DeVos and Attorney General Jeff Sessions urging them to put in place measures ensuring that violent students are reported to law enforcement. The GOP lawmaker slammed Obama’s guidelines for putting the burden of discipline on teachers.

Rubio wrote that the 2014 guidance “discouraged schools from referring students to local law enforcement,” leading educators, rather than school resource officers or other law enforcement personnel, to take charge of discipline. He added that harsh federal penalties for high suspension rates have “arguably made it easier for schools to not report students to law enforcement.”

In the years before the Parkland shooting, several students had reported gunman Nicolas Cruz for making threats and stalking people, but very little was actually done about them.

This comes after Trump put Obama to shame by getting North Korea to agree to sit down with the United States and talk about the possibility of denuclearization. The White House confirmed that Trump has accepted North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un’s dramatic offer to meet.

“President Trump greatly appreciates the nice words of the South Korean delegation and President Moon. He will accept the invitation to meet with Kim Jong Un at a place and time to be determined,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. “We look forward to the denuclearization of North Korea. In the meantime, all sanctions and maximum pressure must remain.”

This is humiliating for Obama since the former president was not able to make any progress with North Korea in the eight years he was president. However, Trump only needed one year to bring North Korea to the table.
